Sumba Hills Black Sun sunglasses pair a softly squared shape with rounded edges and a keyhole bridge. The design draws on the understated optical frames of the 1960s and 1970s. The black and yellow tortoiseshell pattern creates a strong contrast. Designed for women and men. On oval and round faces, the frame’s defined lines add structure.

Designed by us, made from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and assembled in Bali.

Clear blue-light filtering lenses are included, or choose polarised UV400 sun lenses at no extra cost. Polarised lenses soften glare from water or roads. Special HOYA tints are available separately. Our opticians can help you choose prescription lenses in store. Our sun lenses offer UV400 protection.

Signature collection

This collection is conceived and produced by our team. The idea is to offer contemporary glasses that are easy to wear. These square frames are designed to remain timeless and well balanced on the face. We produce all frames in small quantities to keep a limited selection that is regularly refreshed in our boutiques. Each model is designed for everyday comfort and to work easily with different styles.

Materials and case

Our Signature acetate square models use Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, chosen for its layered colours and the way it can be shaped and polished. The hinges are designed for daily use. Each pair comes with a Maison Mata case and a microfibre cloth. We work with small workshops in Bali and elsewhere in Indonesia for cases and packaging. Our sunglasses offer UV400 protection.

Advice and care

Our opticians can advise you on prescription lenses in store. These include UV protection, anti-reflective treatment and a hard coating to help resist small scratches.

Lifetime care for your Maison Mata square glasses is free in store: replacement screws and nose pads, acetate polishing and frame adjustments.

Rinse off dust or sand with clean, lukewarm water, then dry gently with a clean microfibre cloth. Keep your glasses in their case when you are not wearing them.

Maison Mata frames are designed to take prescription or sun lenses. These square frames can be fitted with different lens types according to your prescription and needs: single-vision, progressive, polarised, photochromic or blue-light filtering lenses. Our opticians can guide you towards lenses suited to your vision and everyday use. You can also have a free eye exam with our optometrists in Canggu, Ubud or Sanur. This eye exam allows us to establish your prescription before making your lenses.

Lenses, care and personalisation

01Is the square shape suitable for my face?

Square sunglasses give the face a defined outline. Straight sides and visible corners add structure to round or oval contours; thicker acetate makes that geometry more pronounced. On an angular face, rounded corners or a fine rim soften the effect. Explore designs for women and men, from compact to generous proportions.
02Will square glasses make my face look too large or too small?

The same shape can look different depending on its width, lens height and rim thickness. A larger frame creates more presence; a fine rim or translucent acetate gives a lighter outline. Use the product-page dimensions to compare proportions. Our opticians can help with sizing and adjustment.
03Can I personalise the frame colour, lens tint or engraving of my Maison Mata glasses?

For Signature, choose from the colours and sizes shown on the product page. You can personalise a Handmade design in acetate colour, frame size and engraving at no extra cost. We work through the proportions, finish and colours with you; lens options are selected separately.
For a completely new frame design based on your ideas and measurements, choose our Tailor-Made service.
04Are all sunglasses UV protected, and what does UV400 actually mean?

UV400 describes protection against UVA and UVB up to 400 nm.
Polarisation reduces glare reflected from surfaces such as water or roads.
These are separate properties: a lens can provide UV protection without being polarised. All sunglasses sold on our website provide UV400 protection.
05How often should I get an eye exam to keep my prescription up to date?

The right interval depends on your age, eye health, prescription and medical history.
Ask your eye care professional when to return. Do not wait for the next routine appointment if you notice a new change in vision or persistent symptoms.
06Do you collaborate on limited editions or capsule collections?
