Why Maison Mata

Maison Mata is an independent eyewear brand based in Bali, with four boutiques on the island. We design, produce and sell our own collections, giving us a distinctive understanding of what works creatively and commercially.

All our frames are conceived and designed in-house. For our acetate models, we use premium Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. We develop two complementary collections: a Handmade line shaped and finished by hand, piece by piece in our Canggu workshop, after an initial CNC cut, which lets us prototype collaborations, test frames and assess shapes and colours in real conditions; and a Signature collection produced in larger quantities, with a timeless approach to design.

As designers, makers, opticians and retailers, we follow the full journey of a pair, from creative intent and technical constraints to its performance in store and the customer experience.

We do more than create glasses. We design products made to be worn, sold and last.

The frame needs to find its place in your collection. We develop its shape, acetate colours, lens tints and details with you, including your logo and co-branded packaging.

Your identity and references guide the design. Together, we translate them into a pair that carries your style, feels comfortable to wear and is ready for your sales channels.

Our process

We begin with your brand, the people you create for and the place of eyewear in your collection. Your references and a moodboard help us agree on the creative direction before developing the frame.

The times below are estimates. Production and delivery begin after design approval and form a separate stage from research and prototyping.

Creative research and design · Around 2 weeks

We explore shapes, materials and colours through a moodboard and 3D renders. Once the direction is chosen, a first prototype turns the design into an object you can see and hold.

Prototyping and approval · Around 2 weeks

We test the prototype and review it with you: we assess its shape, fit and finish while the frame is being worn. Working by hand lets us refine these details before you approve it for production.

Production and delivery · Around 3 to 4 months

After design approval, we organise production and check the frames, fit, finishes and lenses. Our team also handles packaging, logistics and delivery.

Allow around three to four months for this production and delivery stage. The collection can be sold through your own channels and, if we agree together, in Maison Mata boutiques.

Creative research and design · Around 2 weeks
