FAQ

About Maison Mata

What is Maison Mata ?

Maison Mata is a Bali-based eyewear brand and optical house known for handmade acetate frames crafted in Canggu, French-influenced design, and full optical services including eye exams and prescription lenses. We create sunglasses and optical eyewear built for tropical living, daily comfort and visual precision.

Why choose Maison Mata ?

Maison Mata is, to our knowledge, one of the only eyewear workshops in the world where glasses are crafted in front of the customer, directly inside the store. In Canggu, you watch raw acetate become a frame, cutting, shaping, polishing, adjusting, no factory, no opacity.

We then fit ZEISS, Essilor or Hoya lenses, tailored to your prescription and to Bali’s tropical light. We explain everything: frame shape, lens thickness, blue-light filtering, polarized options.

At Maison Mata, glasses don’t come from a production line, they are made before your eyes, built to be worn every day in Bali (Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur, Uluwatu).

What does “handmade glasses” mean at Maison Mata ?

At Maison Mata, handmade means no automated production. We cut raw acetate, shape it, smooth the edges, polish the surface, then adjust every frame by hand in our Canggu workshop in Bali.

The process is visible to customers, you can watch the material turn into eyewear, a rarity almost anywhere in the world.

A Handmade Maison Mata frame is not mass-produced: it has grain, texture and personality, built to be worn daily in Bali, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur or Uluwatu.

Is Maison Mata a French or an Indonesian brand ?

Maison Mata is a French-Balinese eyewear house: optical culture and design come from France, while the artisanal production happens in Bali, inside our workshop in Canggu.

We exist between two worlds, French precision (comfort, quality lenses) and Balinese craftsmanship (material, handmade texture, human work).

Not only French, not only Indonesian, but a bridge between both, created to be worn and lived with in Bali’s tropical light.

What products does Maison Mata offer ?

Maison Mata offers prescription eyeglasses, polarized sunglasses with 100 % UV protection, contact lenses, and local accessories such as handmade chains and leather cases.

A part of our collections and frames is handcrafted in our Canggu workshop using acetate, then fitted with Zeiss, Essilor or Hoya lenses depending on your prescription. We also provide photochromic, blue light and progressive lens options, suitable for screen work or daily outdoor life under the Bali sun.

Whether you are in Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur or Uluwatu, Maison Mata brings together craftsmanship, optical care and in store expertise.

Where is the Maison Mata workshop located ?

Our workshop is located in Canggu, Bali, where we handcraft part of our collections. Here, raw acetate becomes a finished frame through cutting, shaping, polishing and adjustment, with the process visible to customers inside the store.

Our classic frames are produced in factory conditions using high quality Italian acetate, manufactured to our own designs and standards.

Canggu is the heart of Maison Mata, the place where eyewear is not only sold but made and understood.

Do you only make Handmade frames ?

Part of our collection is Handmade in our Canggu workshop, but we also offer a Classic line produced in factory conditions using Italian acetate. Handmade frames are crafted one by one and visible in store, while Classic frames are manufactured according to our own designs and finishing standards.

Both collections share the same purpose: comfort, quality and long lasting eyewear, with two different approaches to suit different needs and budgets.

At Maison Mata, you can choose uniqueness with Handmade or timeless balance with Classic, both created for life in Bali.

Do you offer unisex frames ?

Yes. Our Classic collection is designed to fit most faces easily, roughly 80 % of people, with balanced shapes that suit both men and women in a natural way.

Our Handmade pieces are different, more expressive, more artistic. They represent about 20 % of our selection and are often chosen with instinct, like a visual love-at-first-sight.

Two approaches, one purpose: eyewear that feels good and looks right, whether you live or travel in Bali, Canggu, Seminyak, Sanur, Ubud or Uluwatu.

Are your glasses suitable for Bali’s strong light ?

Yes. Our sunglasses include 100 % UV protection, with optional polarized lenses to reduce glare from the ocean, sand and scooter reflections.

For prescription lenses, we offer tinted, polarized or photochromic options that darken in sunlight, plus blue light coatings for screen work.

Whether you live in Bali or are visiting Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Sanur or Uluwatu, we adapt lenses to real daily use, from beach days to driving and long days in tropical light.

Do you make prescription glasses ?

Yes. We make prescription glasses using ZEISS, Essilor or Hoya lenses, suitable for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. We offer progressive lenses, blue light filters for screens, photochromic lenses that darken in sunlight, and polarized options for outdoor life in Bali.

You can have your eyesight tested in store, select your frame and lens type on the spot, and we will fit the prescription ourselves. Average production time is 1 to 2 days, sometimes faster depending on lens type.

Maison Mata is a full optical service for daily vision needs in Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur or Uluwatu.

How long does it take to get my prescription glasses ?

Simple prescriptions can be ready within 30 minutes, depending on lens availability. Most prescription glasses are completed within 1 to 2 days, including fitting and adjustment.

For more complex lenses, especially progressives, production can take up to 15 days, as they require a custom build and quality control stage.

We help you choose the right lenses based on how you live in Bali, whether you deal with strong sunlight, scooter driving, surfing or long hours on a screen.

Do you offer progressive lenses ?

Yes, we provide progressive lenses which allow near and distance vision in the same frame. They are available with optional blue light filters, photochromic tint, or polarized finishes for outdoor life in Bali.

Because progressives require precise calibration, production takes around 7 to 15 days, depending on the lens design. We guide you in store to choose the most comfortable thickness, geometry and coating for daily use.

Whether you read, drive a scooter, work on screens or live under strong tropical light, we adjust your progressives to suit the rhythm of life in Bali.

Do you offer eye exams in store ?

Yes, we perform eye exams directly in store. The test takes around 30 minutes, it is free in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu, and measures myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism or presbyopia with accuracy.

We use professional optical equipment, then explain your results clearly to help you choose the right lenses: single vision, progressive, blue light filter, polarized or photochromic for Bali sunlight.

Walk-ins are welcome, you can try frames and get your prescription mounted on site.

Are eye exams free ?

Yes, eye exams are free in our stores in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu. The test takes around 30 minutes and checks your prescription (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia) before choosing lenses or frames.

You can do the test even if you are not ready to order glasses the same day, it is primarily there to help you understand your vision and find the right lens for Bali life, whether single vision, progressive, photochromic or polarized.

Is Maison Mata a Bali souvenir or everyday eyewear ?

Maison Mata is not a souvenir store. Our glasses are made for daily use, for reading, working, driving a scooter, going to the beach and living under the sunlight of Bali, Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Sanur or Uluwatu.

Frames are built to last, adjusted to the face, and made to handle heat, humidity, sweat and strong tropical light.

Whether Classic or Handmade, Maison Mata is meant to be worn, used and forgotten on the face because it is comfortable. A memory of Bali maybe, but first a durable everyday tool.

Summary:

📍 Canggu → workshop + eye exam + Handmade

📍 Ubud / Sanur / Uluwatu → eye exam + frames + lenses

📍 Seminyak → try-ons + collection discovery

Can I try frames freely in store ?

Yes. You are welcome to try all frames freely in our stores, from Classic to Handmade models. Our team helps you choose the right shape, size, bridge and lens option depending on how you live and see in Bali.

Try-ons are unlimited and without appointment in all our locations in Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu. You can compare styles, feel the acetate, test colours on your skin and take the time to find the right frame.

Do your staff speak English, French or other languages ?

Yes. All of our staff speak English, making communication easy with every visitor.

We also have 3 French-speaking team members, plus 2 who speak Chinese and 2 who speak Japanese, so international customers can be guided clearly throughout the process.

Whatever your language, we help you with frame selection, lens advice and eyesight testing in Bali.

Do all your stores carry the same products ?

Our Classic and Sunglass collections are available in all of our stores in Bali.

Handmade frames are different, each one is unique and never reproduced identically. This means you may find one-of-a-kind Handmade pieces in Canggu that are not available in Uluwatu, Sanur or Ubud, and vice versa.

Lenses, contact lenses and accessories remain consistent across all stores, but the special Handmade gem depends on when and where you visit.

Where can I get prescription glasses quickly in Bali ?

For the fastest service, visit Canggu, where our production workshop is located. We can fit simple prescriptions in 30 minutes if lenses are in stock, and most prescriptions within 1 to 2 days.

You can also pick up lenses or frames in our stores in Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu. Seminyak does not perform vision tests but you can choose a frame there and have it fitted in a nearby equipped store.

For express turnaround, Canggu is the best option.

Where do your materials and lenses come from ?

Our frames are made from Italian acetate, a high quality and durable material widely used in premium eyewear. Prescription lenses come from ZEISS, Essilor or Hoya, depending on your visual needs and budget.

Handmade frames are shaped in our workshop in Canggu, while Classic models are produced in factory conditions under our specifications.

All lenses are certified and suitable for Bali’s tropical light, available across all stores: Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Uluwatu and Seminyak.

Can I buy glasses in Bali and have them shipped internationally ?

Yes, you can purchase your glasses in Bali and request international shipping. We ship to Europe, Asia, Australia and most countries worldwide. Shipping fees and any customs import charges are paid by the customer.

You can test your vision in store, choose your lenses, and we can send your glasses to your home once they are ready, even if you already left the island.

This option is ideal for those visiting Bali who want to continue wearing Maison Mata back home.

Can you adjust my glasses even if they were not purchased from you ?

Yes, we can adjust glasses even if they are not from Maison Mata. Our opticians can tighten or open the temples, reposition the fit, replace screws, adjust the bridge or clean and polish the acetate.

Some more complex repairs (broken hinge, bent temples, cracked acetate) require an in-store evaluation to check what is technically possible.

Maison Mata or not, we do our best to improve comfort and balance for everyday use in Bali’s heat and humidity.

Do you offer repairs and polishing in store ?

Yes, we handle standard repairs directly in store: tightening, reshaping, screw replacement, temple adjustment and acetate polishing to restore shine.

Sun, sweat, salt and humidity can dull eyewear over time, and a professional polish often brings them back to life.

For more advanced repairs (broken hinge, cracked acetate), our team will assess the frame to determine what can be done safely.

Why should I come back to Maison Mata after my first purchase ?

Our collections evolve constantly, with new shapes, colors and unique Handmade pieces that never repeat. Each visit to the store feels different, and the next pair might be the one you didn’t expect.

Maison Mata is a brand you don’t just see once, it’s a place you return to for the next favourite frame.

Is Maison Mata one of the must-visit eyewear stops in Bali ?

Yes, Maison Mata is a key eyewear destination in Bali, for optical testing, unique Handmade frames or Classic everyday pieces.

Canggu to see frames being made, Seminyak to browse, Ubud and Sanur to take time, Uluwatu after the beach.

Each store feels different, but all share the same optical expertise.

Maison Mata Collections & Product Range

What collections and products does Maison Mata offer ?

Maison Mata offers three main eyewear families:

• Handmade, frames crafted by hand in our Canggu workshop, unique pieces that never repeat.

• Classic, timeless frames produced in factory conditions using Italian acetate, designed to fit most face shapes comfortably.

• Accessories, eyewear chains, cases and pieces partly handmade in Bali.

We also provide prescription lenses (Zeiss, Essilor, Hoya) and contact lenses, available across all our Bali stores.

What is the difference between the Handmade collection and the Classic collection ?

The Handmade collection is crafted by hand in our Canggu workshop. Each frame is unique, shaped from raw acetate, polished manually and never reproduced exactly the same. It is more expressive, more artistic, often a love-at-first-sight choice.

The Classic collection is produced in factory conditions using Italian acetate, based on our own designs and proportions. It is made to fit around 80 % of face shapes easily, with silhouettes that feel balanced and timeless.

Two approaches, two identities, the same Maison Mata standard of quality.

Why choose the Handmade collection ?

The Handmade collection is for those who want character in their eyewear. Every frame is made by hand in our Canggu workshop, meaning no two pieces are ever identical. The acetate is shaped, carved and polished individually, giving depth, texture and presence that industrial frames do not have.

It is the choice of people who enjoy wearing something rare, visible and unique, a frame that stands out and cannot be found anywhere else in Bali.

Why choose the Classic collection ?

The Classic collection is designed to fit around 80 % of face shapes comfortably. These frames are balanced, timeless and made to be worn every day with ease.

They are produced in factory conditions using Italian acetate, following our own designs and proportions, which ensures consistency and comfortable fit. This is the perfect choice if you want a versatile and easy frame for daily Bali life, work, scooter riding, sunshine or everyday use.

Who are Handmade frames for ?

Handmade frames are for people who want something bold, expressive and different. They often appeal to those who value uniqueness, texture, artisanal details and the natural irregularity of hand-shaped acetate.

They tend to suit creatives, confident personalities, and anyone who enjoys wearing eyewear that stands out instead of blending in. In Bali, Handmade is often a spontaneous choice, a piece you pick with emotion and keep for a long time.

Who are Classic frames for ?

Classic frames are made for those who want high-quality acetate eyewear at an excellent price point. Starting at 1.7 million IDR, they are well-finished, durable and designed to fit around 80 % of face shapes with comfort and balance.

They feel good from day one, hold well in Bali’s heat and humidity, and come with a high-end aftercare service for adjustments, cleaning and long-term support.

If you want eyewear that looks great, lasts, is versatile and remains affordable, the Classic collection is the right choice.

Are Handmade frames unique pieces ?

Yes. Every Handmade frame is shaped by hand in our Canggu workshop, and none is reproduced identically. The acetate is cut, carved and polished individually, so each pair has its own lines, texture and personality.

Two frames may share an influence or a silhouette, but the final finish is never the same, Handmade is alive, personal, and impossible to duplicate.

A Maison Mata Handmade frame is a one-of-one, forever.

Do you use Mazzucchelli Italian acetate ?

Yes, we use Mazzucchelli acetate, the world standard for premium Italian eyewear material. Known for its rich color depth, density and longevity, it offers superior comfort on the skin and ages beautifully in Bali’s heat and humidity.

Our Classic collection is produced using Mazzucchelli acetate, and selected Handmade pieces also use it depending on the creative direction.

Good acetate, when crafted and polished properly, means a frame that lasts, feels premium and can be repolished even years later.

How do I choose the right frame shape for my face ?

Choosing the right frame depends on several factors: face width, bridge height, eye spacing and the balance between curves and angles. In general:

• round faces → more angular or rectangular shapes

• square faces → softer, round or oval shapes

• narrow faces → lighter frames or narrow bridges

• wider faces → thicker, more structured designs

In store, we try different shapes with you until we find the one that lifts your gaze, balances your features and feels like you.

Do you offer more bold or more minimal frames ?

Yes. Maison Mata offers two style directions:

• Handmade → bolder shapes, stronger presence, expressive designs that stand out, each one unique.

• Classic → balanced silhouettes, everyday-friendly, made to fit most faces with a timeless look.

You can choose something subtle for daily wear or something stronger for personality and style. In store, we help you compare volumes, presence and overall feel on the face.

Do you make Maison Mata limited editions ?

Yes, we regularly release limited editions, especially in the Handmade collection, where frames are produced in very small numbers, sometimes as a single piece. Certain acetates, silhouettes or thicknesses will never be repeated.

Limited editions appear in store occasionally, often in Canggu first and then in other shops depending on availability.

A frame you see today may never appear again tomorrow.

Can I customize or modify an existing frame ?

Yes. All our frames, Handmade or Classic, can be customized. We can adjust thickness, reshape the frame slightly, refine polish or modify fit depending on your face and needs.

We also offer laser engraving on any model, a word, a name, a sentence, a symbol or a small drawing. It is the simplest way to turn your eyewear into a personal, one-of-a-kind piece.

Customization means creating something meaningful, something you want to wear every day in Bali.

Do you offer chains, cases and accessories ?

Yes. Maison Mata offers a line of eyewear accessories designed to protect and enhance your glasses, both in Bali and while traveling.

Our chains are partly handmade in Bali, our cases are durable and humidity-resistant, and we also release limited accessories including local collaborations.

Every piece exists to extend your Maison Mata experience, wear, protect, display and elevate your frames.

Do accessories help extend the lifespan of my glasses?

Yes. Chains allow you to wear your glasses without setting them down, keeping them secure during movement or scooter riding.
Cases protect the acetate from heat, scratches, humidity and sand, essential in Bali.
Chain prevents damage, case preserves longevity, both extend the life of your eyewear.

Why should I add a chain or case to my Maison Mata eyewear?

Because eyewear moves with you. A chain lets you wear your glasses without losing or dropping them, at the beach, at a café or while riding a scooter.

A case protects the frame from sun, scratches, sand and tropical humidity.

With both, your glasses stay beautiful longer and always close to you.

Are accessories only decorative, or are they practical as well?

No. At Maison Mata, accessories are not just decorative. A chain prevents falls and keeps your eyewear close to you. A case protects the acetate and extends the life of the frame.

Both are practical first, but designed to be beautiful, functional and fully aligned with Maison Mata’s universe.

If a lens shows a technical defect, we replace it.

Are lenses scratch resistant ?

All our lenses include a scratch-resistant hard coating, but no lens on the market is fully scratch-proof.

They resist daily wear, but sand, beach dust and micro-particles in Bali can cause marks if lenses are wiped dry.

✔ Clean regularly with lens-safe spray (available in store)

With the right routine, your lenses stay clear and protected, even in the tropics.

Vision & Eye Exams

📍 Available in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur, Uluwatu

(✘ not available in Seminyak — frames only)

Is the eye exam free ?

Yes, eye exams are free in our stores in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu.

You can check your eyesight without any obligation to purchase, whether you need to confirm a correction, track visual fatigue or simply monitor your eye health.

Fast, accurate, and the best way to know what lenses suit you.

(Seminyak offers frame fitting only, no eye test.)

How long does an eye exam take at Maison Mata ?

A full eye exam usually takes 10 to 20 minutes, depending on your vision and previous prescription.

We check distance and near sight, digital clarity, convergence, balance between both eyes and overall sharpness.

If correction is needed, we help you choose the most suitable lens type (single vision, progressive, blue-light, sun prescription, etc.).

Fast, accurate and ideal before choosing your lenses in Bali.

How often should I get my eyes tested ?How often should I get my eyes tested ?

We recommend a vision check every 12 to 18 months, even if everything feels normal.

Vision can change subtly over time, and regular testing helps maintain sharp distance sight, reading comfort and screen performance, especially in Bali, where bright light and digital work can affect visual balance.

📌 Test more frequently if:

• vision feels slightly blurry

• you work on a laptop daily

• you wear progressive lenses

• you experience headaches or eye fatigue

What tests are included in a Maison Mata eye exam ?

Our vision checks are detailed and performed by a trained optician or optometrist.

We evaluate several visual functions to provide the most accurate and comfortable prescription:

✔ Distance acuity

✔ Near/reading acuity

✔ Digital/monitor vision quality

✔ Balance between both eyes

✔ Eye coordination & convergence

✔ Precise prescription measurement (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia)

We explain results clearly and recommend the best lens type for your daily lifestyle in Bali.

Can I get an eye exam even if I don’t want to buy glasses ?

Yes. Our eye exams are no-purchase required.

You can check your prescription, evaluate eye fatigue or confirm whether your vision has changed, even if you are not planning to buy glasses right away.

Perfect if you work on screens, ride a scooter daily, or are travelling through Bali and just want a fast, accurate check.

Can I get my eyes tested even if I already have a prescription ?

Yes. You can get your eyes tested at Maison Mata even if you already have a prescription.

We compare past data to your current eyesight to confirm whether the correction still suits your daily activities, reading, screens, driving, tropical light.

If stable → you keep your prescription.

If it changed → we can update it instantly.

How do I know if I need new glasses ?

There are a few signs that your prescription may need updating:

✔ Reduced clarity compared to before

✔ Eye fatigue by evening

✔ Squinting to see clearly

✔ Difficulty reading or using screens

✔ Headaches after focusing for long periods

If one or more of these apply, a vision check at Maison Mata can confirm if it’s time to update your lenses.

At what age does eyesight usually begin to change ?

Sight can change at any age, but these stages are the most common:

• Teens & early adulthood → myopia and fast evolution

• 20–35 → digital fatigue from constant screen use

• 40+ → presbyopia and difficulty reading up close

Regular exams ensure correction adapts early instead of after discomfort appears.

Can I take an eye exam if I already wear contact lenses ?

Yes, lens wearers can take an eye test at Maison Mata.

We usually ask you to remove your lenses 15–20 minutes before the exam so your eyes return to their natural state, allowing more accurate prescription results.

If needed, we can also compare your current lens power with the test result to recommend the most comfortable option for daily use.

Can I get an eye exam if I have never worn glasses before ?

Yes, absolutely.

Even without previous correction, testing your eyes helps evaluate distance clarity, reading comfort and screen endurance, or simply establish a baseline in case your vision changes in the future.

Many people discover their first prescription in Bali, headaches, blurred signs while riding a scooter, difficulty reading or long hours on a laptop.

A first test gives clarity, even if your eyesight turns out to be perfect.

Do I need an appointment for an eye exam ?

Not necessarily.

You can walk into any of our stores in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur or Uluwatu and request an eye exam directly.

If a specialist is free, we take you instantly.

During busy hours (weekends, evenings, high season), making an appointment is recommended to avoid waiting and ensure priority access.

📍 Seminyak doesn’t provide vision testing — frame selection only.

Can I get an eye exam even if I’m only visiting Bali temporarily ?

Yes. Even if you are in Bali for a short stay or vacation, you can walk in for a full vision test.

The exam is quick (10–20 min), free, and we can provide lenses within 30 minutes if the prescription is simple or if you choose non-prescription/polarized lenses.

If you leave before production is finished, we can ship your glasses anywhere in the world.

Short trip to Bali = test now, delivery later if needed.

Can I get an eye exam even if I don’t have my old glasses or prescription with me ?

Yes. You can get your eyes tested at Maison Mata even if you don’t have your old glasses or prescription.

We measure your vision from scratch and determine the correct power directly from the test.

If you normally wear glasses but didn’t bring them to Bali, we can still evaluate clarity, comfort and recommend a precise update when needed.

No history required — your eyes speak for themselves.

How should I prepare for an eye exam at Maison Mata ?

No complex preparation needed.

For an accurate result, here are a few useful tips before your appointment:

✔ Reduce screen use 15–20 min beforehand if possible

✔ Remove contact lenses so your eyes return to their natural state

✔ Bring your old glasses if you have them

✔ Come relaxed, we take care of everything

The process is simple, fast and handled by a qualified specialist. Walk-ins are welcome in Canggu, Ubud, Sanur and Uluwatu.

What is presbyopia and when does it usually appear ?

Presbyopia is a natural vision change that makes near reading more difficult.

It usually appears between ages 40–45, when the eye loses focusing flexibility.

If you hold your phone farther away or struggle with fine print, an eye test at Maison Mata can confirm it and help you choose the right lenses.

What is myopia and how is it corrected ?

Myopia makes distance vision blurry while near vision remains clear.

Common in young adults, screen-workers and readers.

Maison Mata corrects myopia with single-vision or progressive lenses, available in sun, polarized, blue-light or photochromic options.

Do you offer eye exams for children ?

Yes, we can test children’s eyesight (typically from 6 years old depending on stability).

A check is recommended if they sit close to screens, squint, complain of headaches or struggle to read the board.

The right lenses can improve reading, focus and school comfort.

How can I reduce screen-related eye strain ?

To reduce digital eye fatigue, we recommend:

✔ Blue-light & anti-reflection lenses

✔ 20-second break every 20 minutes

✔ 40–60 cm screen distance

✔ Blink and hydrate your eyes

Maison Mata blue-light lenses reduce tension, perfect for Bali laptop workers.

How long does it take to adapt to progressive lenses ?

Most people adapt to progressive lenses in 2–10 days, sometimes slightly longer depending on lifestyle.

During this time, the brain learns to use the near, mid and distance zones seamlessly.

We help you select the right index and fitting to ensure smooth adaptation.

Warranty & After-Care Service

What is the warranty on Maison Mata eyewear ?

All Maison Mata frames come with a 1-year warranty covering any manufacturing defect.

If a hinge fails or a structural flaw appears, we repair or replace the frame.

Normal wear, accidental breakage or loss are not covered, but we can repair or assist whenever possible.

What does the warranty cover ?

Our warranty covers manufacturing defects only, including structural or initial assembly issues such as:

✔ loose or faulty hinge behavior

✔ acetate flaw or internal weakness

✔ defective solder / assembly point

✔ production-related bridge or temple failure

It does not cover normal wear, accidental breakage, scratches or loss, although we do offer repair solutions whenever possible.

We repair first, replace only if necessary.

What if my glasses break outside of warranty ?

No worries, even without warranty, we can often assist you.

If the damage is repairable (hinge, temple, screw, surface polish), our workshop will try to restore the frame cleanly and securely. If the frame is too damaged, we offer alternatives: part replacement if possible, discount on a similar frame, or new frame with your lenses transferred.

We don’t replace automatically, we fix whenever repair is possible.

Do you repair glasses that were not purchased from Maison Mata ?

Yes, as long as the repair is technically feasible, we can work on frames not purchased at Maison Mata.

We can replace screws, realign temples, adjust the bridge, tighten fit, polish acetate or deep-clean the frame.

More complex damage (hinge ripped out, frame split, fractured acetate) requires an in-store assessment to determine repair viability.

Even if the frame isn’t ours, we still try to bring it back to life.

Do you offer frame adjustment and cleaning services ?

Yes, we adjust and clean eyewear for free in store, even if the frame isn’t from Maison Mata.

We can tighten temples, balance the fit, adjust the nose position, clean the acetate, polish the surface or replace a screw.

A proper adjustment improves comfort, stability and prevents glasses from sliding under Bali heat.

Five minutes with our team can change five years of comfort.

Can I replace the lenses and keep my frame ?

Yes. If your Maison Mata frame is still in good shape, we can replace the lenses without changing the entire pair.

We can install prescription lenses, sun lenses, blue-light filters, photochromic or any other option you prefer.

If the frame is fragile or at risk during lens installation, we notify you beforehand to avoid damage.

New lenses, same frame, a fresh second life.

Can I install my old lenses into a new frame ?

Yes, if the size and shape match, we can transfer your existing lenses into a new Maison Mata frame.

Our team first checks curvature, diameter and alignment to ensure the lenses fit safely without stressing the material.

If everything aligns → we transfer them directly.

If not → we advise the best solution (new lenses, upgrade option, sun tint, thinner lens, etc.).

Keep your lenses, change only the look.

How long does a repair or adjustment take ?

Most simple adjustments (tightening, alignment, cleaning, light polishing) are done in under 10 minutes.

More technical repairs, hinge work, bent temples, full disassembly, deep polishing, may take 30 minutes to 48 hours, depending on complexity and frame condition.

We always give you a clear time estimate after inspection, and if repair isn’t safe, we suggest the best alternative.

Fast when simple, careful when complex.

Do you provide after-care service if something happens later ?

Yes. Follow-up is a core part of the Maison Mata experience.

Even years after purchase, you can return for adjustment, cleaning, screw tightening or comfort checks.

If a technical issue appears within warranty, we handle it.

If it’s natural wear, we offer repair or replacement solutions depending on condition.

With Maison Mata, you don’t just buy glasses, you have a team to come back to.

Can I bring my glasses for regular maintenance ?

Yes, you can visit us as often as you want for a quick maintenance session.

We deep clean, tighten screws, realign the fit, polish acetate and check nose support.

In Bali, heat, salt, sand and humidity can accelerate wear, a visit every 3 months keeps your frame fresh, shiny and comfortable.

Regular care means longer frame life, and better comfort every day.

What if my lenses get scratched ?

Scratches are not covered by warranty as they result from daily use, but we can replace your lenses or upgrade them (anti-reflection, blue-light, photochromic, polarized).

What happens if my lenses get scratched ?

Lenses cannot be polished, polishing removes the coatings (anti-reflection, blue-light, UV filter) and reduces clarity.

The best solution is lens replacement, ensuring new, clean optics with full treatment intact.

We can reproduce your exact prescription or upgrade it (photochromic, polarized, thinner lenses, blue-light, etc.).

Scratch = no polishing → replacement is the proper solution.

Do you offer extended warranty options ?

No, we do not offer extended warranty.

We apply the official warranty provided by our lens laboratories, plus a 1-year Maison Mata warranty for frames we create or sell.

If an issue appears outside warranty, we always try to repair or replace faulty parts whenever technically possible.

No artificial extensions, just real support and honest service.

Can you repair a frame broken in half ?

Sometimes, if the acetate can be welded cleanly and securely.

We need to inspect the frame to confirm whether a long-lasting repair is viable.

If damage is too severe, we propose replacement options with lens transfer or discount.

Do you offer restoration or polishing services ?

Yes, we provide deep polishing, restoring shine, softening micro-scratches and refreshing acetate worn down by Bali heat and humidity.

Depending on condition, your glasses can look near-new again.

Do you offer long-term customer support after purchase ?

Always.

At Maison Mata, service doesn’t end at checkout. We provide unlimited adjustments, cleaning, maintenance advice, part replacement when possible and ongoing support.

You can walk in anytime, Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur, Uluwatu.

Maison Mata = service that lasts beyond the purchase.

Handmade Craft & Eyewear Production in Canggu

What makes Maison Mata Handmade eyewear unique ?

Each Handmade frame is 3D-designed, then handcrafted in Canggu over 15 days.

No mass production, no industrial repetition, every piece is one of a kind, never replicated.

Where are your Handmade glasses produced ?

In our workshop inside the Canggu store.

You can watch the entire process, from 3D design to acetate shaping.

How long does it take to make a Handmade frame ?

Around 15 days of full craftsmanship work per frame.

How many artisans work at Maison Mata ?

We are 4 eyewear artisans, mastering shaping, polishing & hand finishing.

Do you show the making process inside the store ?

Yes, and it’s extremely rare.

We are likely the only eyewear brand worldwide crafting frames live in-store, fully visible to customers.

Can you customize Handmade frames ?

Yes, shape, volume, cut, finish…

You can even watch your frame come to life step by step.

Is every Handmade frame unique ?

Yes, no duplicates, ever.

Each frame has its own texture, volume, and personality.

Can I choose the color of my Handmade frame ?

Yes, we work with a selection of artistic and exclusive acetates.

You can choose a color, a pattern, or let the artisan design something inspired by you.

Are Handmade frames more fragile than classic ones ?

No, they are often thicker, denser, more sculptural.

They simply require regular care like any premium acetate frame.

Can I watch the artisan making my frame live ?

Yes, you can visit the Canggu workshop, see progress, talk with the maker and understand every step.

No curtain, no hiding, a rarity in the eyewear world.

Are Handmade frames produced in batches or series ?

Never.

Each one is built individually, from 3D drawing to final polishing.

How many Handmade frames do you produce per month ?

Very few, each one takes 15 days to complete.

Scarcity is part of their identity.

Can I pre-order a Handmade frame before coming to Bali ?

Yes, you can pre-book a design, choose material & shape, then collect or final-fit in store.

Do Handmade frames age well over time ?

Yes, acetate develops a natural patina and character.

A quick polish can bring back shine even years later.

Why choose Handmade instead of a classic frame ?

To wear a piece that will never exist twice.

A handcrafted object, visible, alive, eyewear as functional art.

Maison Mata Chains & Accessories

Where are Maison Mata eyewear chains made ?

Our chains are made in-house, handcrafted in our studio.

Some include semi-precious stones sourced from Indonesia & Thailand.

What material do you use for the chains ?

We mainly use acrylic, lightweight, comfortable, sun-friendly and humidity-resistant, ideal for tropical wear.

Do you offer chains with natural stones ?

Where are your eyewear cases made ?

Two families :

• Pandan cases, handwoven in Java

• Leather cases, handcrafted in Bali

Are your accessories handmade ?

Yes, chains and cases follow a handcrafted approach.

Each piece is shaped by hand, not industrial production.

Why acrylic for Maison Mata chains ?

Because it’s ultra-light, skin-friendly, and ideal for tropical weather.

You can wear it all day, almost weightless.

Are Pandan cases eco-friendly ?

Lightweight, breathable & biodegradable.

Do the chains fit any glasses ?

Yes, they are compatible with all Maison Mata frames and most eyewear models on the market thanks to flexible tips.

No, acrylic is 3–4 times lighter than metal or dense resin.

You can wear them all day without neck strain.

Can a chain be matched to a Handmade frame ?

Yes, we can design a chain to pair with your Handmade frame, either tone-on-tone or in bold artistic contrast.

Do you sell accessories online ?

Yes, our chains, Pandan cases and leather cases are available online and in-store.

Some limited crafts may remain in-store exclusive depending on stock.

Pandan = light, flexible, breathable.

Leather = strong, durable, firmer protection.

→ Two styles, two experiences, same handmade DNA.

Are accessories produced in small batches ?

Yes, small volumes, evolving with material availability.

No mass production, no fixed inventory.

Are your accessories made to last ?

Yes, lightweight but strong acrylic, hand-worked leather, Pandan delicately woven.

Not decorative objects, they are built to travel, age beautifully and stay with you for years.

Tailor-Made Custom Eyewear by Maison Mata

What is a Maison Mata tailor-made frame ?

A frame designed exclusively for you, from a blank canvas.

Shape, width, nose fit, color, everything is defined together, then handcrafted in our Canggu atelier.

How does a custom project begin ?

Always with a meeting.

Client & designer build a moodboard, collect inspirations, define style and lifestyle needs (daily, sun, bold or minimal).

Can you reproduce a pair I already own and love ?

Yes — we can recreate its spirit, while changing enough to avoid copying.

Same essence, custom fit, more personal.

Do you propose several design options before the final frame ?

Always.

We create multiple 3D variations, then test sizes, volumes & bridge fits in store to find the perfect balance.

How do we choose the acetate color ?

Together, from our exclusive acetate library, classic tones or artistic textures, including internal color developments.

You take the final decision.

How long does custom production take ?

Once the final design is approved → minimum 15 days of craftsmanship.
Shaping, sculpting, polishing, all by hand.

Can I try the frame during the making process ?

Yes, several fitting sessions allow us to refine bridge, width, balance and visual harmony.

Your frame evolves with you until perfection.

Does tailor-made improve comfort ?

Yes, significantly.

Width, bridge shape, temple angle, balance, everything is built for your facial structure.

A custom frame feels like it isn’t there.

Does custom work also change the style outcome ?

Yes.

Frames can soften a jawline, open the eyes, add personality or subtlety.

Design becomes communication.

Can I order a custom sunglasses version ?

Yes, prescription sun, clear, tinted, gradient, blue-filter, HOYA internal colors.

Everything is possible.

What is the difference between Handmade and Custom ?

Handmade = a unique frame made by us.

Tailor-made = a unique frame made for you, using your face as the blueprint.

Can we design a frame that doesn’t exist anywhere else ?

Yes, new silhouette, unique volume, exclusive tone.

One frame for one person.

What happens during the final delivery ?

Final fitting, micro-adjustments, temple tension, nose bridge balance.

If you still feel it, we refine until perfect.

Can I follow the progress of my custom frame ?

Yes, you can visit the Canggu workshop during production, or receive progress photos/videos if you are away.

Custom work is not hidden, it’s experienced.

Why choose Maison Mata custom work ?

Because you don’t pick this frame, it comes to life for you.

15 days, craftsmanship, presence : luxury is time held in hand.

Sunglasses & UV Protection / Bali Sun

Do your sunglasses provide real UV protection ?

Yes, 100% UV protection on all our sunglasses.
Built for tropical sunlight and long exposure.

What’s the difference between UV400 and polarized lenses ?

UV400 = protection from UVA/UVB.

Polarized = reduces glare, improves contrast, increases comfort.

Are Maison Mata sunglasses polarized ?

Yes, all our classic frames come polarized, perfect for surf, scooter, beach & strong sunlight.

Handmade frames can be fitted with any solar lens on request.

Which tint is most comfortable in Bali ?

Brown & grey work best for everyday use.

Gradient for driving & mobility, dark tint for direct sun.

Are Maison Mata sunglasses good for surfing ?

You can surf with them, but we do not recommend it.

Even with polarization and good fit, there’s still a high chance of losing them in the water.

If you really want to surf with them, use a chain to secure them

Does polarization cause eye strain ?

Quite the opposite, it relaxes the eyes.

Less glare = less effort.

Can I get prescription sunglasses ?

Yes, prescription + UV protection + polarization available.

One frame for clarity + sun comfort.

Can I drive while wearing polarized sunglasses ?

Yes, polarization reduces road glare, windshield reflection and visual fatigue.

The only note: some LCD dashboards may appear slightly darker with a polarized filter.

Are Maison Mata sunglasses only for the beach, or also for daily city use ?

They’re designed for everyday life, city, scooter, beach, café, work, sunset.

One pair works morning to night.

Do darker lenses protect more than lighter ones ?

Tint doesn’t equal protection.

A light lens with UV400 protects just as well as a dark one with the same coating.

Do sunglasses reduce eye strain during the day ?

Yes, less harsh light = less eye stress.

Perfect for scooter rides, outdoor reading and late-afternoon sun.

Do you offer progressive prescription sunglasses ?

Yes, progressive sun lenses are available, gradient or full tint.

Distance + reading vision combined outdoors.

Are Maison Mata sunglasses suitable for Bali scooter riding ?

Yes, glare reduction, better contrast, eye comfort under strong light.

For night riding, switch to clear optical lenses.

Can children wear Maison Mata sunglasses ?

Yes, full UV protection.

We can also resize frames or design a custom kids version if needed.

Why invest in proper sunglasses in Bali ?

Because Bali sunlight is strong, frequent and long-lasting.

A good lens protects your retina, relaxes your eyes and follows you everywhere, city, surf, travel, life.

Visual Conditions & Symptoms: Myopia, Presbyopia, Screens, Eye Fatigue

Blurry vision, headaches, squinting, or end-of-day eye fatigue.

If you experience any of these, a Maison Mata eye exam can confirm quickly.

What is myopia exactly ?

Distance vision becomes blurry while near vision remains sharp.

Frequently linked to screens + visual effort.

Easily corrected with lenses made in-house.

And what is presbyopia ?

Around 40+, near vision becomes harder, phone needs to be held farther.
Maison Mata offers progressive, reading or sun-progressive solutions.

Do screens really tire the eyes ?

Yes, high brightness + blue light + reduced blinking = fatigue.

Our blue-light lenses reduce stress, dryness and headaches.

How can I reduce eye strain daily ?

Use the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 min, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Proper lenses alone improve comfort dramatically.

My vision is getting worse, is that normal ?

Yes, eyesight changes over time.

Maison Mata monitors and adapts your prescription as you evolve.

Blurry mornings or end-of-day vision, should I worry ?

Not always, tired eyes, dryness, overuse are common causes.

A quick Maison Mata exam clarifies if correction is needed

What is astigmatism exactly ?

Astigmatism happens when the cornea isn’t perfectly round.

This makes lines look blurry or doubled, and the eyes work harder to focus.

A toric lens corrects it almost instantly.

How to know if headaches are vision-related?

If headaches start after screens, reading or driving, vision is often involved.

Even a small uncorrected defect can cause discomfort.

A quick eye exam will clarify it.

Are progressive lenses hard to adapt to ?

They require a short adaptation period, but with the right fitting they feel natural.

What matters most is the adjustment, not the lens itself.

Signs my child needs glasses?

If they sit close to screens, squint, or tire quickly when reading, it’s worth checking.

Early correction improves comfort and learning.

Why is my computer vision blurry but outdoor vision clear ?

Screens require a different focusing distance.

Small visual defects often appear only at this range.

Computer lenses solve this quickly.

Clear vision in the morning but blurry in the evening, normal ?

Yes, usually fatigue or dryness from long screen use.

Breaks, proper lenses and hydration help keep vision sharp.

Can sunlight make my vision condition worse ?

It doesn’t change your prescription, but it tires your eyes a lot.

Polarized sunglasses protect you and reduce visual strain.

Will my eyesight keep getting worse over time ?

Not always.
Eyes change with age, but good habits and proper lenses keep vision comfortable.
Maison Mata doesn’t just correct, we guide your vision long-term.

How to Choose the Right Frame for Your Face Shape

How do I know which frame shape suits me best?

It’s all about balance, a good frame complements the face instead of overpowering it.

In-store, we try different shapes and study proportions, style and comfort together.

We don’t impose a choice, we help you discover it.

Best frames for a round face?

Angular or rectangular shapes add structure and contrast.

They slim and define facial lines.

Full-round frames can enhance roundness, try, but compare.

Best frames for a square face?

Soft curves, oval, butterfly or rounder frames.

They soften the jawline and balance structure.

Our Handmade styles often shine on this face type.

Best frames for an oval face?

You’re flexible, most shapes work well.

Here we focus more on personality, colors and statement rather than restrictions.

Best frames for a heart-shaped / triangular face?

Balance the upper face by adding volume below or centrically.
Light cat-eye, gentle rounds, narrow bridges work beautifully.

Classic vs Handmade for face shapes?

Classic = easy to wear, versatile, subtle.

Handmade = bold, artistic, personal.

80% love Classics, 20% fall deeply for Handmade.

How to be sure I choose the right frame?

We try, compare, adjust and decide together.
A frame must fit your face, but also your personality.
We don’t sell a pair, we match you with your frame.

How do I choose the right frame size?

Your eyes should sit centered, the frame shouldn’t press cheeks, and temples shouldn’t overshoot your face.

With proper adjustment, comfort becomes instant.

How do I choose the right color?

Warm skin suits caramel/tortoise, cooler tones love grey or blue.

Neutrals like black or crystal work universally.

But the best rule: choose the one that makes you feel “right”.

What if my nose bridge is low or narrow?

A fitted bridge avoids slipping and nose pressure.

We adjust nose support so the glasses stay comfortable, even in Bali’s heat.

What if my glasses slide or squeeze my temples?

It’s a fitting issue, not a frame issue.

We heat, bend and re-shape the acetate, comfort comes from precision.

What if I have a beard or strong hair volume?

Bold frames work best, they balance the overall visual volume.

Subtle frames peuvent disparaître visuellement.

Do thick frames suit everyone?

They look incredible on strong features or bold personalities.

On softer faces they dominate, which is good only if it’s intentional.

Can I wear a bold frame without feeling too much?

Absolutely, the right shape makes even a strong color look natural.

Bold doesn’t mean excessive — it can mean you.

How do I know when a frame feels like me?

When you stop thinking about it.

It feels natural, like it belongs.

The mirror confirms it instantly.

Common Eyewear Problems & Fast Fixes

My glasses slide down, how do we fix it?

Usually 5 minutes is enough.

We adjust the fit, check the bridge, and polish or refine areas if needed.

Once adjusted properly, they stay in place, even in Bali humidity.

Nose marks or pressure, is that normal?

Not necessarily.

We adjust the bridge, and if needed we re-shape and sculpt the nose contact area for better weight distribution.

Comfort → no red marks.

Temples feel tight over time, what does that mean?

Discomfort often appears after long wear, not immediately.

We adjust gradually until we reach the perfect balance between stability and comfort.

Every face is unique — fitting must evolve with it.

Lenses fog up, how to reduce it?

Humidity and AC contrast cause fogging.

A small fit adjustment that increases airflow can help a lot.

Soap coat, anti-fog spray or hydrophobic AR coating improve it long term.

Pain behind the ears, fix?

We reshape temple curve carefully, comfort increases, stability stays.

No pair should hurt. If it does, we adjust until it doesn’t.

Can scratched lenses be polished?

No, polishing removes coatings.

Scratched lenses must be replaced.

Simple lenses 15–30 min, progressives up to 15 days.

How to prevent frame deformation?

Don’t pocket, don’t leave in hot cars and never wear them on top of your head, that’s where temples open and lose alignment.

A check-up every few months keeps them like new.

I sometimes see double or blurry, is it normal?

It may come from eye imbalance, astigmatism or screen fatigue.

An eye exam will tell quickly, most cases are easy to correct.

Screen use makes my vision tired, what to do?

Blue light + reduced blinking = tired, dry eyes.

Breaks, proper lighting or screen-specific lenses help instantly.

My lenses reflect on photos or Zoom calls.

A good AR coating reduces glare dramatically.

A light adjustment of tilt also helps visibility on camera.

How to clean glasses safely?

Cold water + mild soap + microfiber only.

No shirts, no tissues, they scratch coatings.

Do screws loosen naturally over time?

Yes, heat and daily motion make components move.
We tighten in 2 minutes, free adjustments anytime.

My glasses vibrate when I ride a scooter.

Wind pressure + road vibration cause micro-shaking.

A firmer nose or temple fit solves it instantly.

I feel irritation with acetate — normal?

It’s uncommon but possible.

We smooth contact zones or suggest alternative materials.

Best everyday protection tips?

Case always with you.

No head, no pockets, rinse after salt water.

Good care = long life.
