Our Story, Maison Mata, Handmade Eyewear in Bali

The story of Maison Mata: born from the meeting of a French optician and a Balinese designer. Handmade eyewear, Mazzucchelli acetate, and local craftsmanship in Bali.

Our Story

Maison Mata was born from the meeting of a Balinese and a Frenchman.

David grew up surrounded by workshops and eyewear, inheriting the craft of opticianry from his parents.

After several years in Paris working with bespoke eyewear houses, he chose Bali to bring a new vision of eyewear: combining handmade craftsmanship with small-batch production.

In 2019, he met Adi, a Balinese designer. Together, they imagined a place where glasses would be designed and crafted directly on-site, in a boutique workshop in Canggu.

Soon after, Margaux, a passionate frame maker, joined them to sketch and handcraft every model.

Today, Maison Mata has five boutiques across Bali (Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur, Uluwatu). Two collections are offered:

All frames are designed in-house and made from Mazzucchelli acetate, renowned for its quality and durability.

Our opticians and optometrists provide free and precise eye exams, along with complete aftercare: adjustments, polishing, and repairs.

At Maison Mata, every pair of glasses is designed to be comfortable, elegant, easy to wear, and made to last.
