Handmade in Bali for men and women, The Abyss is a bold interpretation of a round-square silhouette. Its defining feature lies in its deliberate asymmetry: the right and left sides differ, creating a strong visual identity that feels modern and expressive without being overpowering.
The structure is sculpted and balanced, designed to be worn with confidence. This unconventional geometry brings character and contrast to the face, making The Abyss particularly suited to those looking for a distinctive yet refined frame. Designed for both men and women, it complements a wide range of face shapes depending on the desired statement.
Crafted from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, the frame offers depth, density, and lasting comfort. Each pair is handmade in our Bali workshop over approximately 15 days, then hand-polished and adjusted in our Canggu boutique.
Lens options include polarized, photochromic, blue-light filtering, or prescription lenses, all finished with UV400 protection, anti-reflective coating, and scratch resistance.
The Abyss reflects the Maison Mata approach: precise design, bold lines, and craftsmanship where French vision meets Balinese expertise.

Made to Order & Customization
Each Round Maison Mata frame begins as a flat sheet of Italian acetate, then slowly takes shape in our Bali workshop. Its soft curves demand patience and precision, requiring about two weeks from the first outline to the final polish. You can choose the tint, engraving, or size you prefer. Every frame is hand-finished by our artisans in Canggu.

Materials & Packaging
Our Round frames are crafted from Mazzucchelli acetate, light, strong, and perfectly balanced. A fine stainless-steel core adds flexibility and comfort, while CR39 or polarized lenses offer full UV protection. Each pair includes a leather case, microfiber cloth, care solution, and small screwdriver, all carefully prepared by hand in Bali.

Services and Care
Maison Mata eyewear is designed to last and age beautifully. If your Round frames need an adjustment, polish, or repair, our Bali boutiques will handle it free of charge. Clean your lenses with the microfiber cloth, store them in their case, and avoid heat. Over time, the acetate develops a natural patina that makes each pair unique.
Questions & Answers for Eyewear Lenses & Customization
What face shapes suit round glasses best?
Round glasses soften strong or angular features, ideal for square and rectangular faces. They highlight natural symmetry and add a creative, vintage touch. For round faces, look for thinner or slightly flattened circles to avoid accentuating curves.
Will round glasses make my face look too large or too small?
Round frames can visually shorten long faces if too small, or exaggerate width on wider ones. Keep the frame edges within your temples for harmony. The goal is balance, a circular frame should feel light, not dominant.
Are handmade sunglasses worth it compared to popular designer brands?
In terms of materials, they can be similar, many use Italian acetate or steel.
What truly sets handmade sunglasses apart is their individuality : each pair has its own soul and story.
