Handcrafted in our Bali workshop over approximately 15 days, Cove offers a refined take on the oval silhouette. Its smooth, rounded shape is designed to feel natural and well balanced, while the tortoiseshell acetate brings warmth and depth to the frame. The distinctive white inner rim adds contrast and definition, subtly highlighting the lenses and giving the design a clean, modern edge. Designed for both men and women, Cove suits a wide range of face shapes depending on the desired look. The oval form softens facial features while the inner white ring adds structure, creating a frame that feels elegant, controlled and easy to wear every day.

Crafted from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, the frame combines rich layered tones, durability and lasting comfort. Each pair is shaped, assembled and hand-polished to achieve a smooth finish and a precise, comfortable fit. Lens options include polarized lenses to reduce glare, softly tinted lenses developed in our Bali workshop, blue-light filtering lenses for daily use, or photochromic and prescription lenses prepared by our opticians. All lenses feature UV400 protection, anti-reflective treatment and scratch-resistant coating.

Every Cove frame is handmade and adjusted in our Canggu boutique, where French design precision meets Balinese craftsmanship.

    Each Butterfly Maison Mata frame begins as a flat sheet of Italian acetate before taking on its elegant, winged silhouette in our Bali workshop. About two weeks of patient craftsmanship are needed from the first outline to the final polish. You can choose the tint, engraving, or size to make it truly yours. Every step is done by hand in Canggu.

    Materials & Packaging

    Our Butterfly frames are crafted from Mazzucchelli acetate, light, strong, and beautifully balanced. A fine stainless-steel core gives them flexibility, while CR39 or polarized lenses offer full UV protection. Each pair includes a leather case, microfiber cloth, care solution, and small screwdriver, all prepared by hand in Bali with the same care as the frames.

What face shapes suit butterfly glasses best?

Butterfly glasses enhance oval and heart-shaped faces, highlighting cheekbones and adding lift. They also balance square faces, bringing femininity and openness. Avoid oversized versions on very small faces to maintain proportion.

Will butterfly glasses make my face look too large or too small?

Butterfly frames naturally lift the face, but large versions can overwhelm delicate features. Choose moderate width; the top corners should align with your temples. On smaller faces, curved or tapered edges work best.

What does “handmade eyewear” really mean, and how is it different from factory-made?

Many brands call their frames handmade even though most steps are machine-made and only minor finishing is done by hand.
At Maison Mata, handmade means every step, cutting, shaping, assembling, polishing, is performed by hand in our Bali workshop.
Factory production creates hundreds of pairs per day; ours require around fifteen days each, crafted by three dedicated artisans from start to finish.

What are polarized lenses, and when do they make the biggest difference?

Polarized lenses use a special filter that blocks horizontal glare from water, sand, and roads.
They make colors sharper, vision clearer, and reduce eye strain, especially under Bali’s strong tropical light.
They’re ideal for driving, beach days, or any time you spend hours outdoors.

What should I avoid so my frames don’t warp (heat, sunlight, salt water)?

Keep your glasses away from extreme heat, such as car dashboards or direct sun.
Rinse them after sea swims in Bali, saltwater can damage acetate and metal hinges over time.

Can I book an eye exam and get lenses fitted the same day?

Yes, in most cases, your lenses can be made and fitted the same day directly in our Bali workshop.
Our opticians perform your eye exam, prepare your prescription lenses on-site, and fit them to your chosen frame within a few hours.
