Eye exams and optical expertise

Before you start wearing contact lenses, our team checks your vision and how the lens sits on your eye. We explain insertion, removal and care, and arrange follow-up advice to check that the lenses remain suited to your eyes.

Contact-lens fittings are available in Canggu, Ubud and Sanur. Seminyak sells contact lenses and care products but does not provide eye exams or fittings.

How to choose contact lenses

Start with your prescription, eye health and how often you want to wear lenses. Daily disposables give you a fresh pair for each wear; monthly lenses can suit regular use when you follow their cleaning and replacement routine. Our opticians explain the choices and check the fit before recommending an option.

02Questions

Your questions about contact lenses in Bali

  1. 01Do I need a prescription to wear contact lenses?

Yes. You need a prescription and a contact lens fitting; the prescription may differ from the one for your glasses. Contact lenses sit directly on the eye, so their curvature, diameter and material matter as much as the correction.

Our team checks your vision, how the contact lenses sit on your eyes and your eye health. They then explain wearing time and care. Contact lens fittings are available in Canggu, Ubud and Sanur.

  2. 02How long can I wear my contact lenses during the day?

Daily wearing time depends on the lens and the advice given during your fitting. Follow the replacement and cleaning instructions for your lenses, and do not sleep in them unless your eye care professional specifically approves it. Remove them if your eyes become uncomfortable.

  3. 03What types of contact lenses exist?

Daily disposable lenses are worn once, then discarded: a simple option for occasional wear or travel. Reusable lenses, including monthly lenses, need cleaning, disinfection and replacement on the schedule specified for them.

At Maison Mata, we offer daily, two-weekly and monthly contact lenses, depending on your prescription and availability.

Toric lenses for astigmatism and multifocal lenses are available to order, with a lead time of around two months. Coloured contact lenses are also currently available only to order; our team confirms the options and lead time.

Our team checks the fit and explains the options suited to your eyes and wearing habits.

  4. 04Can I swim, surf, or do water sports with contact lenses?

Remove contact lenses before swimming, surfing, showering or other water activities. Water can carry microorganisms that cause serious eye infections. Daily disposable lenses do not make water exposure safe. Prescription swimming goggles or a suitable prescription mask are alternatives to discuss with an eye care professional.

  5. 05Are contact lenses safe for everyday use?

Contact lenses can be worn daily after a professional fitting, with good hygiene and the recommended wearing schedule. Wash and dry your hands before handling them. Follow cleaning and replacement instructions. Remove them before contact with water or sleeping, unless overnight wear is specifically prescribed. Remove them if you feel discomfort and seek professional advice.

  6. 06How often should I have an eye exam if I wear contact lenses?

Have a contact-lens check yearly, or at the interval your eye care professional recommends. Even when your vision feels stable, the visit checks the lens fit, the surface of your eyes and whether your prescription needs updating.

Do not wait for that appointment if you have pain, redness, blurred vision or persistent discomfort: remove the lenses and seek professional advice.
