Mahogany Mirage sunglasses have a broad, angular front with cut corners, thick rims and a curved bridge. The volume draws on the bold acetate frames of the 1980s. Shown here in Tortoise. Designed for women and men, with angles that add definition to round and oval faces.

We make this Handmade frame in our Canggu workshop in Bali from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. We shape and polish the contours by hand to reveal the depth of colour and create a smooth surface. Allow around 15 days for production, excluding shipping. Frame size, acetate colour and engraving can be personalised at no extra cost. Each pair is adjusted by hand in our Canggu boutique.

You can also personalise it in our Virtual Atelier: try it on, adjust the size, change the acetate and send us your design.

Your choice of included lenses: polarised sun lenses, clear blue-light filtering lenses or special HOYA tints. The sun lenses offer UV400 protection. Photochromic lenses are available as an option; for prescription lenses, our opticians can advise you in store.

Making and personalisation

In our Canggu workshop, each frame begins with a sheet of Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. We refine the generous shape of these oversized glasses, work the contours of the frame by hand and polish it to a smooth finish.

Made-to-order production takes around 15 days, plus shipping. Choose the frame size, acetate colour and engraving at no extra cost; lens options are selected separately.

Materials and case

For these oversized frames, we choose Italian Mazzucchelli acetate for its depth of colour and the way it can be shaped and polished. A thin stainless steel core reinforces the temples.

Our polarised sun lenses are made from CR-39: they offer UV400 protection and reduce glare from reflections.

Your frame comes with a case and a microfibre cloth, even if you choose it without lenses.

Lifetime care

Lifetime care for your Maison Mata oversized glasses is free in store: replacement screws and nose pads, acetate polishing and frame adjustments.

Rinse off dust and sand with clean, lukewarm water, then dry gently with a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid solvents and household cleaning products. For adjustments, bring your frame to us rather than bending it yourself.

Between uses, keep your glasses in their case, away from strong heat.

02Prescription

Prescription and sun lens options

Optician in Bali

Our Handmade oversized glasses can take prescription or sun lenses. Depending on your prescription and the frame you choose, options include single-vision, progressive, polarised, photochromic or blue-light filtering lenses.

Our opticians help you choose lenses suited to your vision and everyday life. In Canggu, Ubud and Sanur, you can have a free eye exam with our optometrists. This eye exam allows us to establish your prescription before making your lenses.

Lenses, care and personalisation

  1. 01Is the oversized shape suitable for my face?

    Oversized sunglasses make the proportions part of the look. A broad front can add width to a long face; rounded outlines soften angular features, while sharper edges add definition. Our selection for women and men includes both. For a lighter oversized effect, choose a finer rim or translucent acetate. Our sunglasses provide UV400 protection. Our opticians can advise you in store on prescription lenses.

  2. 02Will oversized glasses make my face look too large or too small?

    The same shape can look different depending on its width, lens height and rim thickness. A larger frame creates more presence; a fine rim or translucent acetate gives a lighter outline. Use the product-page dimensions to compare proportions. Our opticians can help with sizing and adjustment.

  3. 03Are thicker, angular frames heavier, and will they feel comfortable all day?

    A thick outline does not have to mean an evenly thick frame. We refine the acetate on the inside as well as around the edges, working on weight and balance while preserving the shape. The way the bridge and temples distribute that weight matters for comfort, and our team can adjust the fit in store.

  4. 04Can blue-light filtering lenses be worn every day, and do they change colours?

    Blue-light filtering lenses can be worn daily and combined with a prescription. Depending on the lens range, light tints may also be available. The tint and visible reflections vary by lens and treatment; our opticians can show you the options and confirm the combination for your prescription.

  5. 05How long does it take to get prescription lenses made and fitted?

    Single-vision lenses usually take 30 minutes to 3 days; progressive and office lenses usually take 7 to 10 days. Timing depends on your prescription, lens availability and the laboratory, and we confirm the estimate before you order.

    Free eye exams are available in Canggu, Ubud and Sanur. Lens edging and fitting into the frame are carried out at our Canggu workshop.

  6. 06What happens if my glasses get scratched or damaged, can you repair or replace parts?

    Bring us the frame or send clear photos. Depending on the damage, we may be able to polish the acetate, replace a temple or the lenses, or reassemble the frame. We explain what is possible and any charges before carrying out the work.

    Lifetime care for your Maison Mata oversized glasses is free in store: replacement screws and nose pads, acetate polishing and frame adjustments. Scratched lenses are replaced, not polished.

Do your glasses slip or sit unevenly? We adjust frames free of charge, including those bought elsewhere, so they sit more comfortably on your nose and behind your ears.

Polishing

Polishing can restore the shine to an acetate frame and soften small surface marks. This service is free for the lifetime of your Maison Mata glasses. It is for the frame, not the lenses.

Repairs

Screw and nose pad replacement is free for the lifetime of your Maison Mata glasses. We also assess possible repairs to frames bought elsewhere. Other repairs and parts are quoted before any work begins.
