Try 173 frames, then personalise your Handmade pair. Send us your design; we craft it in our Canggu atelier.
Your camera stays on your deviceVirtual Try-On & CustomIn our Canggu workshop, each frame begins with a sheet of Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. We refine the shape of these butterfly glasses, work the contours of the frame by hand and polish it to a smooth finish.
Made-to-order production takes around 15 days, plus shipping. Choose the frame size, acetate colour and engraving at no extra cost; lens options are selected separately.
For these butterfly frames, we choose Italian Mazzucchelli acetate for its depth of colour and the way it can be shaped and polished. A thin stainless steel core reinforces the temples.
Our polarised sun lenses are made from CR-39: they offer UV400 protection and reduce glare from reflections.
Your frame comes with a case and a microfibre cloth, even if you choose it without lenses.
Lifetime care for your Maison Mata butterfly glasses is free in store: replacement screws and nose pads, acetate polishing and frame adjustments.
Rinse off dust and sand with clean, lukewarm water, then dry gently with a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid solvents and household cleaning products. For adjustments, bring your frame to us rather than bending it yourself.
Between uses, keep your glasses in their case, away from strong heat.
Our Handmade butterfly glasses can take prescription or sun lenses. Depending on your prescription and the frame you choose, options include single-vision, progressive, polarised, photochromic or blue-light filtering lenses.
Our opticians help you choose lenses suited to your vision and everyday life. In Canggu, Ubud and Sanur, you can have a free eye exam with our optometrists. This eye exam allows us to establish your prescription before making your lenses.
Butterfly sunglasses widen towards the outer corners, with curves that give the upper frame an open, wing-like outline. Our women’s selection explores this shape through softer lines and more pronounced acetate rims. On square, oval or heart-shaped faces, the curved outline offers a way to contrast with angles or echo softer contours. Our sunglasses provide UV400 protection. Our opticians can explain the prescription lens options available for each model.
The same shape can look different depending on its width, lens height and rim thickness. A larger frame creates more presence; a fine rim or translucent acetate gives a lighter outline. Use the product-page dimensions to compare proportions. Our opticians can help with sizing and adjustment.
Our Handmade frames are made from start to finish in our Canggu workshop. Our artisans shape, assemble and polish each frame by hand; a CNC machine makes the precise initial cut. Around 15 days of production allow time to refine the contours, balance and finish before the pair is ready.
The same model can have small differences in acetate patterns and hand finishing. This is part of the character of a Handmade pair.
Polarised lenses reduce glare from light reflected by surfaces such as water or roads.
They can make bright conditions more comfortable, particularly for daytime driving.
Our polarised sun lenses offer UV400 protection. Non-prescription versions have no anti-reflective treatment; prescription versions include it, as do our other prescription lenses. Polarisation reduces glare: it is not required for UV protection.
Keep your glasses in their case when not wearing them, away from direct heat such as a car dashboard.
Rinse off sand or salt before using a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. Bring the frame to us if it needs adjustment rather than bending it yourself.
Single-vision lenses usually take 30 minutes to 3 days; progressive and office lenses usually take 7 to 10 days. Timing depends on your prescription, lens availability and the laboratory, and we confirm the estimate before you order.
Free eye exams are available in Canggu, Ubud and Sanur. Lens edging and fitting into the frame are carried out at our Canggu workshop.
Do your glasses slip or sit unevenly? We adjust frames free of charge, including those bought elsewhere, so they sit more comfortably on your nose and behind your ears.
Polishing can restore the shine to an acetate frame and soften small surface marks. This service is free for the lifetime of your Maison Mata glasses. It is for the frame, not the lenses.
Screw and nose pad replacement is free for the lifetime of your Maison Mata glasses. We also assess possible repairs to frames bought elsewhere. Other repairs and parts are quoted before any work begins.
