Together with Indojunkie, a long-standing German platform that shares travel, culture, and community stories from Indonesia, we carried out a full eye-health charity program at SDN 3 Pedungan, Denpasar. This program was fully funded by Lichtblicke in der Welt, a German NGO that focuses on providing eye care, education, and meaningful support to communities in need around the world. With additional support from Zeiss, Hoya, Acuvue, and Johnson & Johnson, this initiative brought professional vision care to children who had never received an eye test before.

What We Discovered

A total of 334 students received complete vision screening. The results showed a significant need for eye care in the school:

● 152 students (45.5 percent) needed prescription glasses
● 5 students had severe refractive errors
● Many had struggled silently for years without realizing they had vision problems

Some students had high myopia up to minus 6.00 and strong astigmatism, conditions that make learning extremely difficult.

What We Provided

Every child received a professional eye examination, along with:

● Free prescription glasses
● Blue-light protection lenses to reduce screen strain
● Parent consultations to explain their child’s condition and recommended care

This ensures not only immediate help, but also long-term understanding and awareness in the community.

Lifetime Care for Every Child

To ensure sustainable and lasting impact, Maison Mata provides lifetime support for all students who received glasses:

● Free replacement glasses if they break or get lost
● Free updated lenses when prescriptions change
● Access to continued eye care in all Maison Mata stores in Bali

Our goal is to support every child’s vision throughout their school years and beyond.

Why This Matters

Untreated vision problems affect a child’s entire learning experience, including:

● Reading and comprehension
● Concentration and academic performance
● Classroom confidence and participation

A simple pair of glasses can completely change how a child sees the world and how they perform in school.

Our Commitment to Bali’s Community

This charity program reflects Maison Mata’s dedication to supporting and uplifting our local community. We aim to continue this program every year, expanding to more schools and ensuring that every child in Bali has access to clear vision and equal learning opportunities.
