Maison Mata – Handmade Eyewear Born in Bali with Parisian Roots
Discover the story of Maison Mata, founded by David after years crafting eyewear in Paris. Handmade in Bali, with local artisans and timeless design.
Our Story
Maison Mata was born in Bali, on a bit of a whim.

After several years crafting custom eyewear in Paris, David left everything behind for the island. A new rhythm, a new energy, and a desire to create differently: more freely, more meaningfully. He was soon joined by Margaux, a passionate frame maker, and together they design every model by hand.
From the beginning, David was deeply inspired by Bali’s culture of craftsmanship, the patience, the skill, the soul in every detail. But he had never seen a place on the island where glasses were designed and handmade on-site. So he created Maison Mata: a space to celebrate and support local artisanship, while blending it with an international, fashion-forward spirit that’s young, evolving, and rooted in real design.

At Maison Mata, we work in two ways.
On one side, our unique pieces, fully handmade in our boutique-atelier in Canggu. On the other, our Classic collection, produced in small batches abroad from our own designs. It’s made to be easy to wear, well cut, always just right.
What ties it all together is our attention to detail, material, and silhouette. Whether it’s a perfectly centered lens, a hand-polished acetate, or a locally sewn case, everything is considered. We produce as much as we can here in Indonesia: our packaging, chains, leather or woven cases… always in collaboration with talented local artisans.

And because eyewear should look good and see well, each Maison Mata boutique includes skilled, qualified optometrists, here not only to provide precise vision care, but to offer a warm, human experience. Like the Balinese themselves, we believe service should be generous, welcoming, and personal, for those just visiting, and for those who’ve made Bali home.
