In Bali, Maison Mata is your optician for eye exams, prescription glasses and contact lenses. Our optometrists evaluate your vision with precision and guide you in choosing the lenses best suited to your daily use.

And for those who seek more than correction alone, we also make our own frames in our workshop, which can be seen directly in store.

Eye exam

The eye exam at Maison Mata is carried out by qualified optometrists using an autorefractor, a digital chart and manual refraction. We check visual acuity at near and far distances, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia.

The goal is to obtain a precise and reliable measurement, perfectly adapted to your daily life in Bali (driving, screens, surfing, reading, night activities).

The exam lasts 15 to 25 minutes and is conducted in a simple and clear way: a few questions to understand your habits, several monocular and binocular tests, followed by a final comfort analysis. It is free, does not require any immediate purchase, and can be done regularly to monitor your vision over time.

Corrective Lenses & Prescription Services

After your eye exam, we produce corrective lenses adapted to myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. Our single vision lenses are designed for immediate comfort, whether you work on a screen, read, or drive.

For presbyopia, we also offer progressive lenses, providing clear vision at all distances (near, intermediate, far) with a smooth transition between each visual zone.

Production time generally ranges from 30 minutes to 3 days depending on the prescription. We work with globally renowned lens manufacturers, Zeiss, Hoya, Essilor and Rodenstock, to ensure precise correction, optimal clarity and long-lasting quality. These partners allow us to offer thinner lenses, higher-end coatings and sharper vision, which is essential under Bali’s strong and ever-changing light.

Blue-Light Filter Lenses

For people who spend long hours in front of screens, blue-light filters are recommended. They help reduce visual fatigue, limit dryness, and make transitions between indoor and outdoor light feel more natural.

This treatment can be applied to most of our single-vision and progressive lenses, for comfortable use during remote work, extended reading, or daily digital activity.

Polarized & Photochromic

We can also integrate your prescription directly into sun lenses, which greatly improves visual comfort when driving, riding a scooter, or spending time outdoors. You can choose between polarized, UV400, gradient or photochromic lenses (clear → dark automatically), depending on your needs and lifestyle.

Every pair is adjusted in-store according to your facial morphology, pupillary distance, height, tilt and frame support, to ensure a natural, stable vision throughout the day.

Contact Lenses

We offer daily and monthly contact lenses suited to regular use, both for work and outdoor activities.

In-store, we carry Acuvue Moist (Daily), Acuvue Oasys (Daily) and B+L Ultra (Monthly), three trusted references known for their hydration, oxygen permeability and stable visual comfort throughout the day. Daily lenses are ideal for convenience and single-use hygiene, while monthly lenses are preferred by those seeking a durable and economical option. And if you need a different model or brand, we can place an order quickly with our suppliers.

Our Recommendations

European and Asian eye shapes are not always the same, and an unsuitable curvature can lead to dryness or irritation. We therefore guide you toward the lens that fits best, then explain how to insert, remove, clean and care for your lenses in Bali’s warm and humid climate.

The goal is not only to provide lenses, but to make sure you can wear them every day, comfortably, confidently, anywhere on the island.

Handmade Eyewear Crafted in Bali

At Maison Mata, part of our eyewear is made right here, in our in-store workshop. It all begins with a sheet of acetate, an idea, a sketch. The drawing becomes a shape, the shape becomes a frame. The edges are cut, the bevel is polished, and the surfaces are worked by hand until they feel smooth and develop a deep, natural shine. Nothing is standardized, each piece changes with the material, the gesture, and the eye of the craftsman.

A handmade frame takes an average of 15 days to complete, moving through several stages: cutting, shaping, calibration, adjustment, drilling, assembly and final polishing. We refine thickness, balance, temple curve and nose fit so that the frame is comfortable from the first minutes of wear. Every step can be observed directly in the boutique, customers don’t just see a finished product, they see the time, work and precision behind it, and the hands that created it.

Our handmade pieces are never identical. Acetate reacts differently from one color to another, a cut can vary subtly, and the final result depends on sanding and polishing, this is what gives each Maison Mata frame its character, never reproduced in exactly the same way. For those who want something personal, we can design a custom model: shape, width, thickness, bridge, temples, everything can be adapted to the face, the style and the wearer’s needs.

More than an object, it is a memory of Bali.
