Behind the scenes: 240 pairs of sunglasses for a welcome reception in Nusa Dua
In early October we hosted the gift of a group's welcome reception at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort. Three hours on a lawn by the ocean, a full Maison Mata display and around 240 pairs of sunglasses. Here is how the evening ran.
The brief
An international group was arriving in Bali for a few days of meetings and leisure. The organisers wanted the welcome evening to feel like Bali from the first minute, with a gift guests would use during the trip. The reception ran from 6 to 9 pm, with an extra session the next morning from 7 to 10 am for anyone who missed it.

From the first guests at sunset to the last pairs handed over under the lanterns.
Preparation
We brought around 240 pairs of sunglasses, plus our eyewear chains. For this group we printed microfiber cloths with the event's own pattern, name and dates, produced in Bali. To move the display without stress, the team stayed close to the resort the night before and arrived early to set up on the lawn.

The display
Batik tablecloths, wooden trays, fresh flowers in orange and white, and frames on stands at eye level. The goal is simple: from across the lawn, guests should see a boutique, not a gift table. Our team, dressed in black, stood behind the display to guide and fit.

The evening
Guests came in waves, between drinks and dinner. They tried frames on, compared in the mirrors and asked each other's opinion, which is half the fun. Our opticians adjusted every pair on the spot, then each guest left with their sunglasses in a case, with their printed cloth and a Maison Mata paper bag.
Choosing, fitting, laughing

What we learned
Every event teaches us something. This time it was about flow: we now take guest signatures at the start of the queue rather than at the end, organise a one-way path around the display and add more mirrors, so a large group moves smoothly without losing the pleasure of choosing.
How it works, in four steps
- We set up the displayOur team arrives before your guests and builds a full eyewear boutique on site, styled to the venue.
- Guests choose freelyWe bring around three frames per guest, so everyone finds a shape and colour they love, even the last in line.
- We fit every pairOur opticians adjust each frame to the guest's face on the spot, with the machines we bring to every event.
- They leave with a giftEach pair goes home in its case, with a cloth and a paper bag that can carry your logo, event name and dates.
