Handmade in our Bali workshop, Vieux Carré is a generous hexagonal sunglass built on cut corners and a raised, notched bridge. The front is wide and the rims are thick, so each angle of the lens reads clearly from a distance. It is the most architectural piece of the collection.
Inspired by the heavy acetate frames of the seventies, Vieux Carré leans into volume without losing its balance. The tortoiseshell acetate runs with warm streaks that shift with the light, softening a shape that could otherwise feel severe.
Designed for both men and women, the hexagonal form flatters oval and round faces by introducing structure, and holds up well on larger faces thanks to its width. It is a statement frame that stays comfortable for everyday wear.
Crafted from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, the frame offers rich layered tones, density and lasting comfort. Each pair is shaped, assembled and hand-polished over approximately 15 days.
Lens options include polarized lenses to reduce glare, softly tinted lenses developed in our Bali workshop, blue-light filtering lenses for daily use, or photochromic and prescription lenses prepared by our opticians. All lenses feature UV400 protection, anti-reflective treatment and scratch-resistant coating.
Every Vieux Carré frame is handmade and adjusted in our Canggu boutique, where French design precision meets Balinese craftsmanship.

Made to Order & Customization
Each Hexagonal Maison Mata frame begins as a flat sheet of Italian acetate before being sculpted by hand in our Bali workshop. Its geometric shape demands precision and patience, taking about two weeks from the first cut to the final polish. You can choose the tint, engraving, or size that fits you best. Every detail is refined by hand in Canggu.

Materials & Packaging
Our Hexagonal frames are crafted from Mazzucchelli acetate, lightweight, durable, and beautifully balanced. A fine stainless-steel core gives them strength and flexibility. The CR39 or polarized lenses protect from glare and UV rays. Each pair includes a leather case, microfiber cloth, care solution, and small screwdriver, all prepared with care in our Bali workshop.

Questions & Answers for Eyewear Lenses & Customization
What face shapes suit hexagonal glasses best?
Hexagonal glasses suit round and oval faces perfectly, their geometric angles bring contrast and definition. They also add a modern edge to heart-shaped faces while softening square faces with balanced proportions.
Will hexagonal glasses make my face look too large or too small?
Hexagonal frames create balance when sized properly. Oversized models emphasize angles, while smaller ones can look too sharp. Choose a medium width that follows your cheekbones to maintain a clean, architectural look.
Can you adjust frame size, bridge fit, and temple length for a better fit?
Yes, we can. Adjustments are available in every Maison Mata boutique in Bali.
Our opticians reshape your frame for comfort that feels tailor-made.
Are photochromic lenses good for daily use in sunny climates, and how fast do they darken/clear?
Yes, photochromic lenses are perfect for sunny places like Bali. They make colors sharper, vision clearer, and reduce eye strain, especially under strong tropical light.
They darken within 30 seconds outdoors and clear again in about a minute indoors.
Will salt, sweat, or sunscreen damage my lenses or coatings?
Over time, yes, salt, sweat, and sunscreen can dull lens coatings.
In Bali, it’s best to rinse your glasses with fresh water daily and wipe them with a microfiber cloth.
Is there a difference between Maison Mata handmade and classic (factory) lines?
Yes, our Handmade line is fully handcrafted in our Bali workshop, while our Classic line is produced in a factory setting following our designs and quality standards.
Both use Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and premium lenses, but only the Handmade line is shaped, polished, and finished by hand.
