Designed by us, made from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and assembled in Bali. We work on the proportions of these butterfly frames to make them easy to wear, with a contemporary look that fits into everyday life.

We produce Signature in small quantities, keeping a focused selection that we renew in our boutiques.

  • Etapa de pulido artesanal de una montura de acetato hecha a mano en Maison Mata Bali, acabada con cariño por artesanos expertos.

    Materials & Packaging

Signature frames use Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, chosen for its layered colours and the way it can be shaped and polished. The hinges are designed for everyday wear. Each pair comes with a Maison Mata case and microfibre cloth. We work with small workshops in Bali and elsewhere in Indonesia for cases and packaging. Our sunglasses provide UV400 protection. Our opticians can advise you in store on prescription lenses. Our in-store lenses include UV protection, an anti-reflective coating and a hard coat for improved resistance to micro-scratches.

Lifetime care for your Maison Mata glasses is free in store: screw and nose-pad replacement, acetate polishing and frame adjustments.

Rinse away dust or sand with clean, lukewarm water before drying gently with a clean microfibre cloth. Keep your glasses in their case when you are not wearing them.

Lenses, care and custom options

What face shapes suit butterfly glasses best?

Butterfly sunglasses widen towards the outer corners, with curves that give the upper frame an open, wing-like outline. Our women’s selection explores this shape through softer lines and more pronounced acetate rims. On square, oval or heart-shaped faces, the curved outline offers a way to contrast with angles or echo softer contours. Our sunglasses provide UV400 protection. Our opticians can explain the prescription lens options available for each model.

Will butterfly glasses make my face look too large or too small?

The same shape can look different depending on its width, lens height and rim thickness. A larger frame creates more presence; a fine rim or translucent acetate gives a lighter outline. Use the product-page dimensions to compare proportions. Our opticians can help with sizing and adjustment.

How does Handmade differ from Signature?

Signature is designed by us, made from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate and assembled in Bali. Handmade is a separate collection with a different production process.

Our Handmade frames are made from start to finish in our Canggu workshop. A CNC machine makes the precise initial cut, then our artisans shape, assemble and polish the frame by hand. Around 15 days of production allow time to refine the edges, balance and finish before the pair is ready.

The same design can have small differences in acetate pattern and hand finishing. That is part of the character of a Handmade pair.

What are polarized lenses, and when do they make the biggest difference?

Polarised lenses reduce glare reflected from surfaces such as water and roads.
They can make bright outdoor conditions more comfortable, including daytime driving.
Our polarised sunglasses have UV400 protection and no anti-reflective coating. Polarisation is an option for reducing glare, not a requirement for UV protection.

What should I avoid so my frames don’t warp (heat, sunlight, salt water)?

Keep your glasses in their case when not wearing them, away from direct heat such as a car dashboard.
Rinse off sand or salt before using a clean microfibre cloth. Avoid solvents and household cleaners. Bring the frame to us if it needs adjustment rather than bending it yourself.

Can I book an eye exam and get lenses fitted the same day?

Single-vision lenses usually take 30 minutes to 3 days; progressive and office lenses usually take 7 to 10 days. Timing depends on your prescription, lens availability and the laboratory, and we confirm the estimate before you order.

Free eye exams are available in Canggu, Ubud and Sanur. Lens edging and fitting into the frame are carried out at our Canggu workshop.
